An aspiring model, 16-year-old Bo Derek was introduced to actor/director/cinematographer John Derek in 1971. Just as he'd done with previous "protegTs" Ursula Andress and Linda Evans, Derek literally molded her into a highly desirable superstar. In 1974, the 48-year-old Derek capped his makeover by marrying the 18-year-old Bo. In her first film, the Jaws rip-off Orca, Bo showed up long enough to have her lovely leg chewed off by a killer whale. Blake Lively (born August 25, 1987) is an American film and television actress. She is best known for her portrayal of Serena van der Woodsen in the book-based TV series Gossip Girl. She has also starred in movies such as Accepted and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, as well as its sequel The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

Lively was born in Los Angeles to actors Ernie and Elaine Lively. She was raised as a Southern Baptist. The youngest of five siblings, Lively has a brother, Eric, two half-sisters, Lori and Robyn, and a half-brother, Jason. Both of her parents and all of her siblings are, or have been, in the entertainment industry. During Lively’s childhood, her parents would take her with them to acting classes that they taught because they didn’t want to leave her with a babysitter. Lively stated that watching her parents teach acting classes helped her learn the "drills" of acting and gain confidence as she got older. Blake stated that as a child, her mother would bring her to Disneyland twice a week as an opportunity "to have some extra time to bond;" Lively stated that due to all the time she spent there, she felt that she "grew up at Disneyland."

A Tour of Tory Burch Pre-Fall 2011

I had the pleasure of attending the Tory Burch Pre-Fall 2011 presentation recently.  It made me wish the clothes were available now because they would be perfect for my cruise!  Pre-Fall delivers to stores in May so it still has a light feeling but Tory made sure it will all be able to transition into fall.  There were many layering pieces and light jackets that I loved as well as a striped dress that I must make mine.  Of course, I couldn't visit the Tory Burch showroom without taking a few pictures of the decor.  It's just as fabulous as the clothes!  Enjoy!

Brooks and Barneys

Last week, Barney's named Amanda Cutter Brooks their new women's fashion director.  Sometimes she's just seen as a socialite but Amanda was previously creative director for Tuleh and Hogan.  She's also contributed to Vogue and Men's Vogue.  She also wrote the great book, I Love Your Style.  As my friend Jessica Gold pointed out, "she's a good mix of uptown and downtown with a bit of quirk thrown in for good measure."  I always thought the previous women's fashion director, Julie Gilhart, was a little too downtown for me so it will be interesting to see what Amanda does at Barney's.  Everyone needs a little change to shake things up from time to time including stores.
