Is it Spring yet?

I'm over winter which is really a problem since it's only just begun.  That is why I absolutely love the new photos of Nicole Kidman in the February issue of Harper's Bazaar.  They are like a breath of fresh air and are making me forget to that it's supposed to snow in New York tomorrow.  How many more months until Spring?

Ashley Hicks at Home

The photo from David Hicks's London apartment in my last post reminded me that his son Ashley Hicks's Oxfordshire home is featured in the new January 2011 issue of World of Interiors magazine.  I don't normally post bathrooms first but since it's on the cover, I figured it was appropriate.  These photos are from the Ashley Hicks website but there are more in the magazine and I highly recommend picking up a copy.  It's so nice to see when I child not only keeps the family business up and running but adds their own touch.  Ashley has designed much of the furniture in his own home that is also for sale.  Enjoy!

Colorful Mats

The apartment of Ingrid Bergman in the 1958 film Indiscreet has become a design favorite.  I've never seen anyone else frame their art so colorfully until yesterday when I came across two examples.

David Hicks also used colorful mats or "picture mounts" as they are called in David Hicks: A Life of Design.  This London apartment from 1954 was also featured in House & Garden so I wonder if the set designer from Indiscreet happened to see it.

While looking through Tales of Endearment, the blog by Natalie Joos yesterday, I came across a photo of Fabiola Beracasa's apartment.  I love how cheerful the bright colors look on the dark wall.

Kate and Andy Spade also hung artwork with colorful mats in their daughter's room.  The craziest color I've used for a mat is pale blue so I might have to add this idea to my list of things to try this year!

Lanvin Lives On

Did you know that fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin's grandson is an interior designer in Moscow?  Neither did I until yesterday.  I love when creativity runs in a family.  I also love that Jean-Yves Lanvin's apartment isn't as over the top as I've come to expect from Russian design but I guess that's because he's French.  You can see more of it as well as an interview here.  He also has a website which is unfortunately all in Russian but you can still look at the photos! Enjoy!

Lacey Brown, I love the look, soulfoul voice, she's cute and I love her hair too.
Her rendition of "What a Wonderful World" from Hollywood round was great and very endearing and what a great attitude about not getting through last year. I really liked Megan Joy (who got thru instead of her) but Megan didn't quite deliver although she was good. I'm glad Lacey was given another chance this week. Some people say her hairstyle is called "The Suspicious Duchess".
